10 Ways to Manage Your Oily Skin

We can all agree that having an oily skin is very annoying. Aside from making you look terrible, the oil can clog your pores and will eventually lead to breakouts. But you should know that having oily skin is normal. In fact, oil can benefit your skin in many ways, such as keep your skin protected from wrinkles.

The best thing that you can do is to try to manage your oily skin.

To help you with this, here are some tips:

1. Wash Your Face Often

The best way to minimize the presence of oil in your skin is to wash your face regularly. If possible, wash your face twice a day – morning and night. But don’t overdo it. Otherwise, the natural oils that your skin produces will be gone and your face will be more sensitive to the oil.

2. Work Out Regularly

When you exercise, the blood flow in your body will improve and this can help to nourish your skin cells. Exercising can also open up your pores and remove any toxins that get clogged there. Just make sure you drink at least 5 to 6 glasses of water per day to help flush the toxins out.  Also here are some tips to help increase your motivation to move your body!

3. Exfoliate Your Skin

Exfoliating is another effective way to manage your oily skin. It can help to remove the dead cells that are at the top layer of your skin. Removing these dead skin cells can minimize the clogging of your pores and prevent acne breakouts.

When exfoliating your skin, use a facial scrub that’s specifically designed for oily skin. Exfoliate twice a week. This will make your skin clean, smooth, and oil-free. The scrub can also serve as a facial cleanser that can remove whiteheads and blackheads off your skin. But then again, too much exfoliation could dry your skin so don’t overdo it.

4. Apply Moisturizers

Contrary to what many people think, using moisturizers if you have oily skin is not really that bad. For as long as you use the right moisturizer, the product can actually benefit your skin. Look for an oil-free moisturizer that won’t make your skin feel greasy.

5. Use Blotting Papers

Blotting papers are very useful for people with oily skin. If possible, carry some of these with you and apply them on your face whenever you feel like the oil is building up again. These papers are made from absorbent papers that can effectively remove the oil from your skin. But remember that blotting papers won’t treat or stop the production of oil in your skin. They can only remove the oil temporarily so you will not look bad when the oil starts building up.

6. Use a Toner

Toners can also help to minimize the buildup of oil in your skin. According to a study, astringents, especially those that contain natural ingredients like witch hazel have soothing effects on the skin. It’s because witch hazel contains tannin, which is anti-inflammatory. This is good for your skin and can help to tighten your pores and eliminate substances that block your pores and cause acne growth.  If you have Eczema like myself, please read my article on toner and Eczema here.

7. Use Lemons and Egg Whites

Another effective natural remedy for oily skin is lemons and egg whites. Both of these can effectively tighten skin pores. Plus, the acid from the lemon can help absorb the oil in your face. Studies show that lemons have antibacterial properties that are good for acne-prone skin. But keep in mind that this remedy is not recommended for those who are allergic to eggs.

8. Follow a Diet without Oil

Your diet plays an important role in the overall condition of your skin. As much as possible, avoid eating oily foods, especially fried foods. Instead, eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Eating kiwis and lemons can also help to tone down the oil in your skin and prevent acne.

9. Try Not to Touch Your Face

You should avoid touching your skin, especially when it becomes too oily. This will only trigger the growth of acne and worsen the condition of your skin. You may not be able to see it, but your hands could carry dirt and bacteria that can cause an acne breakout.

10. Use Honey

Honey is an amazing skin remedy that can do wonders for your oily skin. It contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties that are good for the skin, especially oily skin. Simply spread a layer of pure honey on your face. Leave it on your skin for at least 10 minutes and rinse it with warm water.
